Software Updates Outside the App Store

When building an application distributed through the Google or Apple app stores, much of the heavy lifting in delivering updates is handled for you. However, there are many circumstances where these consumer app stores don’t apply: embedded devices, industrial desktop applications, and dedicated-use tablets, among others.
